An automated interview is one completed by webcam when most convenient for the job seeker. The interviewer chooses the questions they would like the job seeker to answer and specifies a date by which the interview must be completed, then sends an invitation for the interviewer to complete the interview. The job seekers and interviewer do not have to be online at the same time since the interview is not live. Automated interviews can be more flexible than live interviews if for some reason the interviewee cannot attend a live interview. Automated interviews also provide a structure of consistency since they are the same for all interviewees in terms of questions asked. Typically questions are not presented ahead of time so job seekers must answer them the best they can in the moment as in a live interview. Once completed the interview cannot be halted or started over.
